Stainless Steel bathroom accessories

Its been a while since my last post. As i was going through my store room & i found a spare hook. Suppose to install this on the guest room door in case guest need to hang stuff on them.
In the end we didn't us it and now its sitting on my shelf. However, i think its a good design to share.

Initially, i want to get those Iconic Eames hang it all  hooks but the protrusion is too much & beside the door just won't open properly. Also, this hooks are spray painted and is not suitable for moist places like baths. so i have to give up the Mid-Century modern idea.

Why children's products? For purely personal reasons: Charles and Ray wanted to give them to their own grandchildren and to the children of friends.

 Instead i got this squarish modern ones to match the square rain shower.

Bath room hooks

Got this cool hooks in stainless steel. Unlike those hook made of plastic that will break over time.
Saw these & feel in love with them.
Price is a fraction of Hansgrohe.

Bought 1 piece, 1 for each bathroom and 1 for guest room door
Paid around SGD45+ for each of this lovely hooks.

However these hooks are quite sharp on the corners but look damn fierce. Bought 2 piece, 1 for each bathroom

Brabantia pedal bin

Brabantia has always been a premium quality home ware for many years. The first time we saw this was in Harbourfront centre where they have a stand-alone booth in HomeFix that has a frontage. But it seens like a far fetch at $100+ for a trash can.

The price justifies when the item is made of high grade stainless steel with a 10 year mechanism warranty. Meaning, after many many years this bin is still alive and kicking. Bins are made of Steel instead of plastic which generate toxic when product and dispose. I specially like the idea of buying very durable goods rather than cheap & "disposable" goods that you have to throw away all the time. Disposables are never eco-friendly.

Last weekend, while grocery shopping in JASON's market place, this bin RRP $118 is discount for only $39.90 with minimum $30 purchase!! We grab it like PRC in LV.

Lightings : Arco Lamp by Achille Castiglioni [Installed]

This by far is the loudest lighting i had installed. Mentioned on previous post, this lamp is from a famous designer in 1962. We got this at a fraction of the original price, which was retailing at Space for $4,000 before discount. However, getting in cheap, we had to do our own transport & installation. The installation is actually quite straight forward with 1 screw and the rest is just a couple of hooking & snapping. Also, the marble is very heavy, so carrying and shifting around is difficult.

  

We try to arrange it beside the sofa but the L Shape sofa corner was too far from coffee table so we have to bring it to the balcony side so that the lamp lands right in the middle of the coffee table.

This shop by far is one of my fave shop around, or at least it out of convenience.

They carry a bunch of cool kitchen gears of many cool brands.

Was there this Saturday & we grab a couple of great deals.

This AMORIM 2-in-1 placemats are super functional. You won't have to find coasters cos it come with the placemats! How smart is that? Even better @ $11.25 less 40% each pack is 4pcs.
That's $1.68 per pc. Cheaper than IKEA...

Bodum another big brand, it's coffee press I had been eying for the longest time is $49.80! Previously $ 79.00 & in my fave green.

Lastly, Italian 4 tier mini trolly @ half price (was $49.00 now $24.90)

Unlike the normal white boring ones, this is again powder coated in green.

Home Party 02: Guest Chef 三菜一汤 cook off 20/11/10

We had great honor of 2 chefs gracing our kitchen. It all started when we bitch about how woman can't cook nowadays & shockingly man can. The bitch soon became reality when we have a shodown of a married couple.

Tip: If you are lazy pigs like us, cooking to this magnitude is really tiring. So, it makes perfect sense to invite a friend over to share receipes, tips & trick on how to prepare a express meal. Plus we got 4 hands to do the dishes & it only cost a little bit more to cook 4 portions, that saving on economy of scale.

Food : Ingredients $60 with lotsa surplus that can cook another meal for 2
Drinks : $46 for 2 bottles of wolf blass with free 2 wine glass!

Home Party 01: Friends Farewell 13/11/10

3rd week of here and we have a sudden news that one of our uni-mates is taking a oversea position. So all look up to our venue for a nice cozy farewell.

While running on a budget and knowing this fella is gonna miss local food, we threw him a local feast hawker food party.

For drinks, our friends came with 1 bottle Moscato, 1 bottle Traminer Riesling, 1 pack 1.5L Shochu, 12 can mixers & from our collection, 4 bottle premium Sake, 1 bottle Moscato, half bottle SKYY Vodka with mixer & couple of beers. [Seems like we are really going to get wasted]

We prep a nice cocktail for early birds to open their appetite!

Recipe : Summer Berry Breezer

Step1 : Pour in tall glass, 2 part SKYY Vodka Berry, 2 tablespoon IKEA organic mixed berry jam. Muddle & stir to make sure jam is not chunky. 

Step2: Build in Jug, generous ice, Pour berry mix from tall glass, add 2 parts cranberry/pomegranate juice & 1 part lime juice. stir with long spoon & serve.

As the mixture is really rich, even when the ice melts it will still be just rite.

Dinner spread: giant platter of Ngor hiang, hokkien mee, char kuey teow & oh-luak.
Serve with Choice of white wines or beer.

After dinner, we sit down around our coffee table & bitch. Since there is a significant amount of Japanese booze, we dug out all our Jap snacks to go along with it. Dried octapus, rice crackers, calibee prawn crackers.

Being really informal, we serve the Hot & Cold sakes in a Vodka shot glass. As instructed by the sake dealer there is a sequence which to drink 1st.
This turns out to be quite like a impromptu Sake & Shochu appreciation. 

The Damage? [apart from severe liver damage & puke all over the place]

Food : $50 feeding 8 pax
Drinks : $64 for Sakes, $8 wine hand carry from Aus, Vodka from Duty-free

Tips : Try theme parties ideas that are hassle-free & hopefully cheap, like hawker fare. food are all tabao this reduce preparation time.
Stock up beers & hard liquor from duty-free & you won't feel the pinch when you to splurge on alcohol. Duty-free Vodka makes cheap cocktails & makes everyone high.

Lightings : Tord Boontje Garland [Installed]

Happy new year people!
This will be the first post of the year!

This lamp, probably the first lighting feature post about cool designs, had arrive via air from a ebay seller in US a while back. Featured in the previous post, you can find more details of Tord Boontje & the Garland for Artecnica

Its also the first thing we D-I-Yed in our place, apart from the lighting cord done by the Electrician, this GARLAND all done by myself.

Its actually a continuous strand of brass cut outs leaves & flowers just like a long vine.

Above is the lamp lighted up 

So what I did was to wrap it around this bulb over and over again trying my best to shade the direct light emitted from the bulb.

The bulb chosen is a 20 watts IKEA bulb which is rather not very bright. Also, this bulb have a rubbery coat on the glass which turns out to be really good as its not so slippery.

Lastly, we "sculpt" this by twisting out the leaves & flowers to form the structure, a bit like hair styling, pushing in to create volume & pinching out to create definitions.

Really fun, interactive & definitely 100% ownership!!

Lightings: Louis Poulsen anti-glare luminaire [Installed]

Its been too long since our last post.

We had finally complete our renov & finally set up our broadband.

This post will talk about the 2 previously featured lighting we had ordered and been installed.

In our dining area, Louis Poulsen Artichoke is a glare-free luminaire by Poul Henningsen.

Also in the photo, A Vintage 1963 Hille Chair upholstered in Chocolate Brown Canvas.

Sadly, Hille had discontinue this collection & shift their market focus to making auditorium seating & our standard school chairs. 

In master bedroom, a ultra-retro Louis Poulsen Snowball is a glare-free luminaire by Poul Henningsen. Many could have mistaken this as a Verner Panton as its frequently paired with Panton seating & wall decor. Truth is, Verner Panton did design something similar

The coincidental thing is my mum actually got us a cheap bed sheet set that had a picture of the lamp in it. She some how has the ability to foresee how my bedroom will look like.

Yale Digital Lock Year-end promo till 26/12/10

When it comes to gadgets, we are definitely not early adapters. Also being the first to use the products will be the most expensive and some products may have some flaws which will then be fine tune to perfection in later batches.

Yale had launch its Digital lock ard 2-3years back, & the Biometric models are launch recently.
However, this biometric system seems very much different from the first few biometric locks in market where it "photo-copy" type technology. Yale on the other hand, is using swipe technology which is very much like Miss Piggy's Fujitsu laptop. this is neater looking & dealers says its more accurate cos it reads 'Textures' instead of taking photos.

I think benefits of having a Digital lock are:

Self Locking - good for those of us that always forget to lock the door, 
[eg: halfway to work and you wonder if you had actually lock you doors?]

No Key for Security - super relevant to those who loves to loose keys, either misplace at home or drop in somewhere outside, or even worst, left it at the letter box!! After that when you go back, the bunch of keys are GONE!!! then you can't sleep that night cos you wonder if the person who pick up will come and open your door.

No Key for Convenience - say if we go for a swim or visit the gym, we don't have to bring our keys along. Or when your family is visiting, we do not have to give them the spare keys cos we can just sms them the password, which we can change easily.


Currently, Yale is having Buy 1 get 1* Free promo, when you buy a Large model you get a Small model for free. We can either install the large one on our main door and the small one for the master room. If not, we can install in our parents place. Or even better sell it on ebay @ $500 or $600. Do take the opportunity to upgrade your home security.

Hilarious mopping slipper @ Isetan AIMEDIA Fair

This thing really looks like some feet from Sesame Street and it its absolutely adorable.

Now Isetan is selling this for $15 a pair & definitely gives your Charles & Keith a run for comfort.

Designer definitely have lazy people like us in mind. Sadly this only cleans d place you walk and you will need extra effort to sweep the corners of your house where dust really settle. This definitely is a conversation piece what look hilarious & not to mention energy saving from to less vacuuming.

However, this slipper is only available during special fairs, which I reckon supplier is not a permanent vendor in Isetan.
